Mara has approximately 4 years of professional experience working in Information Technology in addition to her formal training as a social scientist. She has a BA in Anthropology (University of Vermont), an MA in Social Sciences, with a focus in Anthropology (University of Chicago), and just recently completed a Master in Public Policy (Collegio Carlo Alberto). In between her first and second Master’s degree she worked in Information Technology as a business systems analyst, with a responsibility to develop technical solutions for meaningful reporting.

Mara has conducted ethnographic fieldwork and in-depth interviews in Jamaica and she has interned in the Research Unit at ICMPD in Vienna, working on a variety of international and European projects on European asylum and migration policies. While In her role as business systems analyst, Mara worked on the development of internal systems to provide meaningful data-delivery products for end-users and managers. To this end, she utilized relational database systems and web-based reporting tools to provide automatic reporting and delivery of managerial reports and implemented a dashboard solution to add greater data visualization and data interaction for user reporting.

In her role at Experientia, Mara will be looking to bring together both her qualitative research skills and her technical skills through studying techniques in Artificial intelligence and applying them to a variety of projects in the field of healthcare and social innovation.

Where do you find inspiration?

I find inspiration in traveling and listening to people's life stories, and understanding how they see and experience the world

My dream design challenge is to create mobile applications which address social and public challenges by empowering the individual users employing gamification and AI techniques
