FredericiaC, citizens and urban development

Realdania

FredericiaC is the project name for a new sustainable canal district in Fredericia, Denmark that is being revitalized from a former industrial area. During this process, the FredericiaC development board invited Experientia to provide input into a smart city development plan, inspired by a combination of ideas from winning proposals.

3 things to know

  1. FredericiaC is the project name for a new sustainable canal district in Fredericia, Denmark that is being revitalized from a former industrial area.

  2. Experientia helped shape the sustainable urban planning of FredericiaC through co-creation and design strategy recommendations.

  3. The development of FredericiaC will be completed over the next 20-25 years, encompassing 1000 residences and 2800 commercial spaces.

In collaboration with engineering firm Arup and architecture firm Effekt, Experientia participated in a parallel competition for the urban development of FredericiaC.

We proposed a method integrating development in four key perspectives of the plan which included (1) planning for transitory development, (2) involving people through participatory design, (3) creating sustainable spaces, and (4) stimulating the economy. Our strategy and proposed ideas were then illustrated through personas, resident life paths and an opportunity map envisioning how FredericiaC could benefit from initiatives ranging from the design of a temporary space to new ownership models.

The development of FredericiaC will be completed over the next 20-25 years, encompassing 1,000 residences and 2,800 commercial spaces.
