Ecofamilies (EU research)

The Centre Scientifique et Technique du Bâtiment (Scientific and Technical Center for Buildling - CSTB) of Nice, France partnered with Experientia and other agencies to develop a web platform monitoring the energy consumption of a pilot home.

3 things to know

  1. Ecofamilies is a family-friendly smart meter that provides real-time, contextual information to help families reduce their energy consumption.

  2. We were involved in the end-to-end research and design of the Ecofamilies platform, from overseeing user research to testing our digital prototype with real users.

  3. The behavioral change program is currently being piloted in Nice, France.

Experientia was involved in the end-to-end research and design of the Ecofamilies platform, from overseeing user research to testing our digital prototype with real users.

The user-friendly platform provides tenants with contextual, real-time information on their energy consumption and upcoming bill, as well as practical alerts to avoid overconsumption. These alerts act as useful nudges that help families make important behavioral decisions that allow them to save money and lower the city’s overall energy consumption.

Our project deliverables included a benchmark of existing solutions, user research guidelines, a click-through prototype and the initial hi-fidelity user interface.

The web platform is being used in a pilot home in France.
