Medical anthropologist and researcher

One day, machines will be able to solve all our questions, but they will never be able to offer us one. Einstein

Isabel has an MA in Cultural Anthropology and Ethnology, with expertise in Medical Anthropology. She has worked as a consultant for DEAR Onlus at the Pediatric Hospital Regina Margherita in Turin in technological laboratories for hospitalized cancer patients and as a project manager for an experimental VR game for pain and stress reduction. She also worked as project manager assistant for Arduino and Maker Faire Rome 2017.

She strengthened her expertise in HealthCare with an MA in Healthcare Systems and Integrated Medicine at Milano-Bicocca University where she completed a thesis on Social Robotics and Technology for Humanization in healthcare environments. Isabel originally discovered her love for anthropology during a two-month field research in Nairobi's slums in 2012. She spent almost a year doing field research in Paraguay investigating different cases, such as: teenage motherhood, traditional and indigenous medicine, and female empowerment through traditional knowledge. She also gave anthropological advice to local community councils on water issues.

Isabel bases her field research on strong theoretical knowledge and on building empathic relationships focused on patients' illness narratives and empowerment, in different medical cultures.

If you were to create a piece of art, what would the subject be?

I would like to create an artistic performance called "Hacker Anthropology": creating something that disturbs people and make them question reality and maybe participate in changing their society.

What's your superpower?

My superpower is to understand the real meaning behind people's words.

What is happiness to you?

When you feel that there is just the present time (no past, no future), you are aware of the moment and the place where you are, and everything is perfect and simple as it has to be.
